Port of Olympia Commissioner Jeff Davis says he'll run for the legislative seat that will be vacated by state Rep. Fred Finn, D-Steam Boat Island.

The Olympian reports that Davis will run as a Democrat. Davis, 43, who lives in rural Thurston County and works as a longshoreman at the Port of Longview and other Western Washington ports, told The Olympian he will remain a Port of Olympia commissioner through his campaign.

Finn recently announced that he would not seek re-election.

The 35th District includes all of Mason County, the eastern part of Grays Harbor and parts of Thurston and KItsap counties. Its boundaries are likely to change, however, as the state moves through its redistricting process.

At least two of the redistricting proposals moves the 35th District completely of Grays Harbor.

Also seeking elected office for the same seat are Glenn H. Gaither, an independent, and Drew C. Macewen, a Republican, according to state Public Disclosure Commission data.
